About Shalom Educational and Social Welfare Society
Introduction
Shalom’s activities to promote peace, culture and education are part of the longstanding tradition. Shalom has been active in public education, women empowerment, child care, skill development program, disaster response and sustainable agriculture with a focus on peace and disarmament, human rights as well as providing humanitarian assistance and promoting cooperation. Shalom society operates independently, and programs of socially engaged activities are developed in line with local priorities and expertise.
Shalom emphasizes the empowerment of its individual members to play an active and contributing role in society. Whereby a deep inner- motivated change within a single individual's life is seen as impacting the destiny of a nation and the world.
Aim and Approach
Initiating mutual relationship with the local public and with Local Administration.
Our approach involves four steps: to learn, to reflect, to empower and to foster leadership.
To raise awareness in all aspects such education, women independency, health and care, etc.
Development that will simultaneously fuel economic growth, create sustainable livelihoods and replenish the environment.

We also focus on security of future generations as well.
Education
Shalom’s attempt to eradicate illiteracy
One key area is the lack of quality education in the villages. Due to the socio- economic and cultural situations, a large population of the Dalit and Tribal people were denied education for centuries.
Shalom has played vital roles in educating and empowering the young
From the lower strata. Our people have taken sacrificial steps to fulfill their commitment to the cause.
To address the critical situation, Primary level, Elementary level, Secondary level and Senior Secondary schools were set up in different villages in rented buildings. And all of them have attained appreciable status within short time.
Women Empowerment
Women, especially poor women in rural areas, remain the invisible backbone of their households and communities. However, their many disadvantages - poor education, limited opportunities for skills training, few property rights and restrictive social norms - mean low-paying labor work is often their only option. Whatever they earn is almost always spent on improving the quality of life of their families.
Disaster Response
Shalom society is dedicated to aid people who have been displaced, rendered homeless, wounded or someone who have lost their loved ones in any kind of Disaster.
In this disaster, communities and families are helped with essential relief supplies like food, clothes, bed sheets, warm clothes and toiletries. Our social workers and volunteers are committed to lend a helping hand to those in dire need.
Child Care
We give study materials to children that help in their education. We are very happy to see smiling faces and also could see parents happy.
It is common sight to see children washing plates, picking rags, eating from the garbage cans and begging for a living. This is the weakest, vulnerable and the most exploited section of Indian society. Child abuse is also reported widely.
The safety of our children in our area is very alarming and not only government but every responsible citizen have an obligation to work toward the safety and wellbeing of the destitute children.
Sustainable Agriculture
The majority of Indian farmers own very small plots and practice rain-fed agriculture, depending almost entirely on the yearly monsoon for irrigation. A bad monsoon - too little, too much or untimely rain - means that they are unable to sow or harvest successfully. Poor soils, high cultivation costs and inefficient farming methods worsen the situation, leading to low productivity and uncertain incomes. Erratic weather patterns caused by climate change are making their risky livelihoods even more precarious.
Shalom’s Sustainable Agriculture Practices Programme is designed to assist such small farmers to cope with these challenges. Demonstration plots and farmer field schools in villages give them information and practical training on climate smart farming practices and technologies, e.g. water saving irrigation devices, organic pesticides and fertilizers, mechanization appropriate for small plots, etc.
Skill Development
Shalom’s Skilling Development Programme provides them with much-needed opportunities to access high quality but affordable market-linked skills closer to their homes. Focusing on the most disadvantaged - economically and socially - it offers them a basket of market relevant skills in the manufacturing and services sectors, supported by employment linkages.
Programme enhances their employability in today's competitive business environment so that they can fulfill their aspirations for a brighter future.
